Clearwater developed from grassroots organizing and education initiatives on the Hudson River, and has inspired dozens of other organizations to do the same.

The Haw River Assembly is dedicated to protecting and educating about central North Carolina's Haw River, and started a traveling environmental festival, similar to the Clearwater Revival, to inspire the next generation of leaders.
